Dillon | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
I was so excited to meet baby Dillon. I did his Mommy’s maternity session in January, when we were lucky enough to get a few flurries for her outdoor shots. It was just so fitting that he was a Spring baby with those snowy Maternity shots! Dillion definitely got his parents long, long legs. He still curled up so adorably for me in my green wrap. He ate and slept like a champ for his newborn session and with all that eating – we certainly had a few laughs over all the resulting…er…. incidents. Dad got the brunt of it, but he handled it really well. I always tell my newborn parents – the accidents are inevitable – I expect it and plan for it. All we need to do is have some paper towels and wipes nearby, we handle it and move on. After wiping away the tears of laughter, of course! As you can imagine, I’ve got some pretty hysterical stories and most new parents can definitely appreciate and relate. You won’t have to ask, I usually cheerfully volunteer to recount them!
Anyway – again another shout out to Dillon’s Dad on this shoot – I absolutely loved the suitcases and other props (some of which Dillon was too big for!) that he had ready to go!

Five weeks early | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
My jaw dropped when I opened the email that said “well, my son came about 5 weeks early…” I’ve gotten my fair share of early newborns but 5 weeks definitely wins the prize for earliest. Baby C was a healthy 6lbs 4 oz at birth and as strong as any full term baby. But he was putty in my hands, so cooperative, and a complete pleasure to photograph. Congratulations R & T on your beautiful baby boy!
My husband and I went on a quick weekend getaway a couple of months ago to New Hope, PA. We stayed at this excellent B&B and I picked up this vintage cranberry crate while exploring the local antique shops… it’s a new favorite for sure and Baby C was so awesome to let me try it for the first time. It’s now my new gallery wrapped canvas sample (photo of that coming soon!)
He was also really good in my twiggy basket…

Rylee | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
Did you see? The snow is gone! I finally updated that pic and traded snowy Jake for Jake & a blossoming cherry tree… now that’s more like it! But onto the adorable Rylee… what a doll! She was awake for much of our session – quite unusual for an 8 day old, but she was very content and super cooperative for her modeling debut. She gave us some amazing eye contact and poses.
I love to capture that newborn yawn… and look at the proud daddy… priceless!
So tiny…for such a brief moment in time…
This one will go on their wall as a 16×20… I LOVE when clients choose black and whites for their walls… I know they will be so pleased with their choice. I have several black and whites up. Maybe it’s just me and coming from a b/w film background but there is just something about the contrast against a colored wall and about how a black and white makes you focus so much more on the core of the image – it makes a for a striking wall portrait.
Congratulations to the S. Family on your beautiful baby girl!
Sweet Chub | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
It’s been a whirlwind month – is April really over? Where did it go?! Oh yeah… to the chubby feet and squishy faces of the all the newborns I was lucky enough to photograph this month! With only a minute to blog tonight – here she is… all of 19 days old, my “oldest” newborn yet: Miss Layla. (Love that name!) Look at all that sweet chubbiness… M & C, it was so nice working with you and M – my thoughts are with you! Thank you so much for letting me into your home to photograph your gorgeous newborn baby girl.
Elizabeth | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
She kept me on the edge of my seat. As far as newborns go, I like to think I get a feel for when they will arrive. I’ve done dozens and dozens of newborn sessions and I think I’ve only had one arrive on exactly on his due date. Elizabeth’s older brother was born several weeks early and so Mom and Dad were fully expecting for his baby sister to make an early arrival as well. It was all a matter of keeping her in there cooking as long as long as possible. Almost every other day I would ask for an update – the suspense was killing me with this little girl! She did come early but safely so and she and Mom, Dad, and big brother were all doing great. Elizabeth gave us an awesome newborn session – but lets start with her big brother and his gorgeous eyes that made me gasp when I pulled them up on my monitor to begin proofing their sneak peeks…
And his little sister – irresistible in mouse ears!
Got my first chance to use my twiggy nest basket – I searched high and low, left and right for this basket and finally scored! I’m in LOVE with it and how it photographs…
Just one more of this cutie…
Bella Familia | Long Island Family Photographer | September Blue Photography
Bella means beautiful. In Spanish, in Italian, and in these photos… beautiful family, beautiful little girl! K booked me for this session last year and it seemed SO far away (to both of us) but it got here before we knew it and now she’s got these family portraits, full of genuine emotion, real smiles, and memories of a fun day, that she can look back on for years to come. We know that one of the moments captured from this is session is getting blown up and going on their wall. And this…THIS is why you hire me. You see, like most Moms, K is the one doing most of the picture taking, most of the time. Which makes for great shots of her little girl, and her little girl with her Daddy - but hardly any of her with her daughter and even less of the three of them. Now she’s going to have a hard time choosing what goes on her wall and how big. =) To the P family – I looooved our session – enjoy your few extra sneak peeks, your gallery will be ready soon!
Amanda | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
Amanda was welcomed by her three older brothers (that’s right – three!) 3 weeks earlier than her due date… although this was no surprise to Mom who fully prepared me for her sure to be early arrival. Twelve days old and right around 6lbs for our session, she slept like a 6 day old and was an absolute dream to photograph. Congrats to the B family on your beautiful little girl!!
Tik Tok | Long Island Newborn Baby Photographer | September Blue Photography
Tik Tok…ending off March with the last of my Top 40 Billboard post titles This little girl earned this title because she had me (oh, and her Mommy & Daddy too, I’m sure) waiting…and waiting…and waiting for her arrival. She decided to join us about 2 weeks past her due date… apparently she was waiting for St. Patrick’s Day to make her grand entrance into this world. Yes, yes, I am falling behind on my blogging…it’s been quite busy over here… if you’re curious what I’m up to you can follow me on twitter… I’m much better working on getting better at that too! Anyway, back to baby S…
She stayed in that position through several “warddrobe” changes…and then later on gave me one of the best newborn-with-eyes-open shots I’ve ever gotten. I mean seriously – that’s even a little smile right there!
What you might not know is that I while I send my clients a few sneak peeks just a couple of days after their session, I love to surprise them with a few extras here on the blog… So K & B – enjoy your extra sneak peeks and congratulations on your baby girl – I don’t have to tell you both, but she was worth the wait even for me!
Naturally| Long Island Baby Photographer | September Blue Photography
What a gorgeous weekend this is! It was SO good to get out for this session with Baby N. I got a taste of the nice weather and beautiful natural light and I can’t wait to get more! I love getting outdoors for my sessions – nothing beats natural light for me and I am always on the lookout for great new locations. Plus, chasing a toddler around outdoors is a great workout What that means for my clients with toddlers is that they get to run around, play, explore and most importantly – be themselves. And that’s when I get to capture them as they are… naturally.
Empire State of Mind | NYC Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
Born exactly on his due date, in true New Yorker style, Baby O granted me the honor of photographing his 6th day of life with barely a protest, wimper or complaint. He was a sweet little angel, sleeping peacefully and giving us these beautiful captures. I tell you… day 6 of newborn life is magical…. =)
