Madison – 6 weeks old | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
It’s true – for beautifully posed, artistic newborn images like you see here, you need to get your baby’s session done before 14 days of age… but what about preemies? Well, preemies can usually make it to their original due date and still be very sleepy and poseable. That was the case with sweet Madison. Born 6 weeks early, we did her session close to her original EDD and were able to get amazing newborn images.
Sisters | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
So it seems that little girls still want little sisters, regardless of how many sisters they already have. These two were positively delighted to welcome the third baby girl to the family. Can’t say that I blame them… after all we girls… well, we are pretty awesome. While I have no biological sisters, I am lucky enough to have several cousins that I consider sisters as well as a few amazing sisters-in-law that I adore and would prefer to just to drop that pesky ”in-law” part. So I can relate. The more the merrier. And there’s room for at least one more over here… just waiting for a certain someone to pop a certain question… But back to these beautiful sisters….

18 days | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
It’s true… I won’t deny it. MOST newborn sessions take place within the first 14 days of life and they are better for it. It has pretty much become the industry standard for a newborn session and rarely will you see a newborn session that looks like this when the baby is older. Why? Because when newborns enter their 3rd week of life, baby acne can start to show up… they tend to sleep less and are more alert and awake. Plus, they start to lose that newborn curl and some other classic newborn traits. So I strongly urge all my newborn parents to let me know as SOON as baby is on the way or has been born. Most put me on their call list of friends and family to let me know that baby has arrived. And I can’t tell you how much I have LOVED getting those emails or texts that say “we are on our way to the hospital to have the baby!” I feel like I’m part of it and how exciting is it to be waiting for a new baby to arrive?! Few things in life beat that…
Hmmm … where was I? Oh yes… newborn photography past 14 days of life usually doesn’t normally look like this. But… then every once in awhile there is a dream baby like baby G… and she will do everything that a 6 day old will do and more. (Actually, I’ve been super lucky lately and have gotten several fantastic “older” newborns…maybe it comes with the experience
) When Baby G’s mommy contacted me last minute I just happened to have an opening – I couldn’t say no…
We were SO excited when she gave us all these amazing poses. She was just a happy baby and it showed. Her mommy and daddy were just over the moon in love with her and that showed. It was one of the sweetest newborn sessions ever. And the really great thing about ”older” newborns is how nicely filled out they are…they are eating well and have started to fill out so they are plump and biteable. [It's a word, I just made it up] Here she is… gorgeous baby G!
And the shot that had me LMAO when editing this session… LOVE this!!
Twins | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
They arrived in early July… and here they are just 6 days old. You might remember their Mama’s maternity session on the beach, it seems like the other day to me and before I knew it, they were here! Photographing newborn twins can be twice the work, but they are twice as fun and twice as sweet. I love how they settle down to sleep so peacefully when their sibling is near. Most of these were shot on the very same blanket that Mom had wrapped around her in her maternit session…
And it’s so cool how, even at just 6 days old, they each have their own unique personalities…
One of my favorites from the session… that’s a little smile there…
Congrats again to the B family – you have a beautiful family!

Sweet Chub | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
It’s been a whirlwind month – is April really over? Where did it go?! Oh yeah… to the chubby feet and squishy faces of the all the newborns I was lucky enough to photograph this month! With only a minute to blog tonight – here she is… all of 19 days old, my “oldest” newborn yet: Miss Layla. (Love that name!) Look at all that sweet chubbiness… M & C, it was so nice working with you and M – my thoughts are with you! Thank you so much for letting me into your home to photograph your gorgeous newborn baby girl.

She kept me on the edge of my seat. As far as newborns go, I like to think I get a feel for when they will arrive. I’ve done dozens and dozens of newborn sessions and I think I’ve only had one arrive on exactly on his due date. Elizabeth’s older brother was born several weeks early and so Mom and Dad were fully expecting for his baby sister to make an early arrival as well. It was all a matter of keeping her in there cooking as long as long as possible. Almost every other day I would ask for an update – the suspense was killing me with this little girl! She did come early but safely so and she and Mom, Dad, and big brother were all doing great. Elizabeth gave us an awesome newborn session – but lets start with her big brother and his gorgeous eyes that made me gasp when I pulled them up on my monitor to begin proofing their sneak peeks…

And his little sister – irresistible in mouse ears!

Got my first chance to use my twiggy nest basket – I searched high and low, left and right for this basket and finally scored! I’m in LOVE with it and how it photographs…

Just one more of this cutie…

Amanda | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
Amanda was welcomed by her three older brothers (that’s right – three!) 3 weeks earlier than her due date… although this was no surprise to Mom who fully prepared me for her sure to be early arrival. Twelve days old and right around 6lbs for our session, she slept like a 6 day old and was an absolute dream to photograph. Congrats to the B family on your beautiful little girl!!
