Matthew | New York Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
Matthew was angelic. He had this serene, peaceful look about him for almost the entire session. A beautiful, content newborn for sure, with a lush head of hair that made me melt. Congrats again to the S Family – he is beautiful!

Inspiration is an awesome thing. It drives the artistic world and fuels artistic industries. Without it, I don’t know where our fashion would be, our technology, and our art. Inspiration can lead you in directions you never even dreamed possible.
Baby Jack, snuggled up in this nest, is an undoubtedly inspired image. It’s inspired by years of observing and admiring newborn photography, by experience in photographing newborns, and, of course, by simply being a mother. It’s also inspired by a signature work of art created by the Baby as Art team. Brittany Woodall & Carrie Sandoval created an image of a baby hanging from a branch in a sling (also an inspired image). It’s an image that conjures up stories of storks bringing wished-for babies to doorsteps. It’s a beautiful tale and one exquisitely told in such an image. BAA has gone on to inspire many photographers to create similar images, and each applies their own creative flair. They inspired me to take it one step further…to look at the image a little bit differently and to express myself in my own way. I thought about how much I love C & B’s image and why. And after a few months – a new image came to me. The inspiration is clearly there - but other than the subject and a tree branch – a distinct call to nature, giving the image an overall organic feel, there are few – if any – other similarities. It is my take…and it’s a different story. One that attempts to express the newness and fragility of a newborn by relating that to the life of a new hatchling in the nest.
Coincidentally, this baby’s grandmother is a birdwatcher…making this image that much more special to this family.
Before I post the image I must post a disclaimer: this image absolutely, without a doubt, has some photoshop magic applied to it. Baby was spotted by a parent tasked with nothing else other than baby’s safety at all times. This is so critical in newborn photography today. There are so many newcomers out there today that might unintentionally risk a baby’s safety in an attempt to duplicate an image they’ve seen elsewhere created by a far more experienced photographer, because they don’t know or understand the mechanics involved in creating such an image. In order to not mislead, I feel it is my reponsibility to let you know that.
And now, baby Jack (who I adore!) – you’d be hard pressed to find a more wished for baby. It was my pleasure and honor to photograph him for Tatiana and her husband Jonathan.
Anna & the Burrito | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
I photographed two Annas in the one month. This little beauty is one of them. I loved hearing this name on a newborn because you don’t hear it too often right now. I have about 113 aunts named Ana but they all go by their middle names (wonder why?) so even I don’t hear it that often anymore. It was a sweet and emotional session. I got to meet Anna’s grandparents just before they left for the airport after seeing their brand new granddaughter. You can imagine it was hard for them to leave her… who wouldn’t have a hard time flying away from this little sweetie….
Her grandmother makes these adorable bows and hair ribbons. Sorry – she doesn’t have an Etsy store or I’d point you to it!
I love that we got to take her outside… I think she loved it too. Her Dad mentioned that she seemed to already love the outdoors.
The burrito wrap. Some Dads just have that gift. They are better at swaddling than me even with all my swaddling experience. My kids never wanted to be swaddled so I didn’t learn it from them. I learned all my swaddling from newborn sessions and Dads like Anna’s. And so – one of my favorite shots of the whole session – Anna in her burrito wrap.
Newborn Sweetness | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
She got her girl. The sweet little newborn girl you see in these photos has a handsome and protective older brother. And her Mom, whose maternity session I had the pleasure of photographing, was so thrilled to be giving him a little sister. She slept and posed like a dream, and we were done in about 2 hrs.
Look at all that hair…
Soooo, I had hoped to be ready to announce the details of my new contest by yesterday (my birthday, btw =P ) but everything is not quite ironed out yet so I can’t. I can, however, tell you that like I said before - Twitter followers and Facebook fans will get a heads up on all the goings on. On the bright side, I did get to have both sushi and chocolate (but not together) for my birthday. This one below is an 11×14 for their wall…
There are definitely some interesting things going on with September Blue so stay tuned, I promise I am going to tweet more and FB more… I have lots of sessions to catch up on and tons of things I want to talk about and show you – on the blog, on FB… But for now, enjoy the rest of these images of this sweet baby girl.
It’s a small web | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
I couldn’t believe my luck. Julie and I had planned our weddings together, essentially, through a wedding planning forum. She got married about a month before me. We ended up meeting for the first time at a mutual friend’s wedding (from the same wedding planning forum)…and now… many years later we see each other again…and I am photographing her 2nd and 3rd child – newborn twins. A beautiful baby boy and a beautiful baby girl. All the while, we stayed connected, in varying degrees, through the web. It’s a small world…er, web.
So anyway, when Julie told me she was pregnant with twins and that I was one of the first to know – I was honored and THRILLED for her. Plans for her newborn twin session were quickly underway. Before I knew it, (actually a more than a few days early), they were here – happy and healthy. Julie, please thank your SIL for me again for being a wonderful assistant and congratulations again on your beautiful babies – enjoy them! And even though you have a beautiful, sweet, and talented photographer in the family, I hope I get to see your adorable kiddies again soon!

Twins | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
They arrived in early July… and here they are just 6 days old. You might remember their Mama’s maternity session on the beach, it seems like the other day to me and before I knew it, they were here! Photographing newborn twins can be twice the work, but they are twice as fun and twice as sweet. I love how they settle down to sleep so peacefully when their sibling is near. Most of these were shot on the very same blanket that Mom had wrapped around her in her maternit session…
And it’s so cool how, even at just 6 days old, they each have their own unique personalities…
One of my favorites from the session… that’s a little smile there…
Congrats again to the B family – you have a beautiful family!

And the winner is… | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
And the winner is: Dean! Well, actually, Dean’s mommy. She won one of a few prizes I donated to the lifamilies.com Bridal Luncheon this year. When I donated a complimentary newborn session – I had no idea it would go to someone already expecting – so I put an expiration date of 2011 on the gift certificate. I was absolutely thrilled to find out it went to someone already expecting and very deserving. J & V, you are a lovely couple and now a beautiful new little family – congratulations again!

Five weeks early | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
My jaw dropped when I opened the email that said “well, my son came about 5 weeks early…” I’ve gotten my fair share of early newborns but 5 weeks definitely wins the prize for earliest. Baby C was a healthy 6lbs 4 oz at birth and as strong as any full term baby. But he was putty in my hands, so cooperative, and a complete pleasure to photograph. Congratulations R & T on your beautiful baby boy!
My husband and I went on a quick weekend getaway a couple of months ago to New Hope, PA. We stayed at this excellent B&B and I picked up this vintage cranberry crate while exploring the local antique shops… it’s a new favorite for sure and Baby C was so awesome to let me try it for the first time. It’s now my new gallery wrapped canvas sample (photo of that coming soon!)
He was also really good in my twiggy basket…

Sweet Chub | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
It’s been a whirlwind month – is April really over? Where did it go?! Oh yeah… to the chubby feet and squishy faces of the all the newborns I was lucky enough to photograph this month! With only a minute to blog tonight – here she is… all of 19 days old, my “oldest” newborn yet: Miss Layla. (Love that name!) Look at all that sweet chubbiness… M & C, it was so nice working with you and M – my thoughts are with you! Thank you so much for letting me into your home to photograph your gorgeous newborn baby girl.
Elizabeth | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
She kept me on the edge of my seat. As far as newborns go, I like to think I get a feel for when they will arrive. I’ve done dozens and dozens of newborn sessions and I think I’ve only had one arrive on exactly on his due date. Elizabeth’s older brother was born several weeks early and so Mom and Dad were fully expecting for his baby sister to make an early arrival as well. It was all a matter of keeping her in there cooking as long as long as possible. Almost every other day I would ask for an update – the suspense was killing me with this little girl! She did come early but safely so and she and Mom, Dad, and big brother were all doing great. Elizabeth gave us an awesome newborn session – but lets start with her big brother and his gorgeous eyes that made me gasp when I pulled them up on my monitor to begin proofing their sneak peeks…
And his little sister – irresistible in mouse ears!
Got my first chance to use my twiggy nest basket – I searched high and low, left and right for this basket and finally scored! I’m in LOVE with it and how it photographs…
Just one more of this cutie…
