Still So Lovely | Long Island Baby Photographer | September Blue Photography
Last year, about this time (give or take a month), I had the pleasure of photographing my friend’s long awaited newborn baby girl. To this day, her session is still one of my best lit newborn sessions… I walked in to the house to find a sunroom just bathed in warm, beautiful natural light. I was in heaven. Before I knew it, we were planning her 1st birthday session… we were all about the location. In the meantime, beautiful baby Annabella was developing a little aversion to grass. Yes, grass. Did not want to touch it, have her bare feet on it, lay on it with a blanket - nothing to do with it. So what? She’s a baby – it’s new, it’s green, it’s itchy, there’s dirt under it - quite frankly, I don’t blame her for not loving grass at first sight. So we found a gorgeous location that gave us lots of beautiful backdrops… sans icky grass. And she was a happy girl.
Check out the daintily pointed toes – how adorable is that?
Did I mention her handsome big brother was there too?
Such a ham…
One for the wall…
A personal favorite… she was so exhausted after a long day of modeling…can you blame her for knocking out like this? =)

Rhyan | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
I photographed Rhyan’s big brother Aiden late last year for his 1st birthday photos and that’s when I found out he was going to be a big brother this June. Rhyan was a 12 day old beauty…slept like, well, a baby for almost the entire session. And how could she not… the house had to be around 90 degrees without my heater going…. perfect for a newborn session. =) I always try to prepare my newborn session parents well before a session by letting them know the house has to be very, very warm. I bring heaters with me but the house also needs to be warm. I tell them that basically when the heat is just right, everyone will be a bit uncomfortably warm. Everyone except the newborn, that is.
I have to start with this one… this might be my favorite from the session. Though I reserve the right to change that. Dad had just gotten the tattoo…
Rhyan’s Mom and Grandma did a *little* shopping on Etsy
They got so much cute stuff…this was the girliest girlie girl session ever so I had to break it out…yes, the newborn pettiskirt!
Okay maybe this is my favorite… Congrats again K & S – she is beautiful!

I shoot them with my Nikon | Long Island Maternity Photographer | September Blue Photography
I once attended a seminar taught by a Master Photographer (not an opinion, a certfication attained through the PPA), and she said “Remember, we don’t ‘shoot’ people, we do a ‘Portrait Study’” LOL Well, that’s a bit formal for my taste but when I was getting ready to blog this session I started to count up the photographers I’ve “shot” and I realized it started sounding like a I went on killing spree so maybe I’ll start saying I “photograph” people from now on. ;)
Being asked to photograph another photographer is quite the compliment and I’ve had the pleasure of shooting photographing the gorgeous Michelle McFadden, Lori Marie of AvaJack Photography and her adorable kiddos, and Summer’s adorable Emerson even takes centerstage in a photo on my website. All talented ladies that I have had the pleasure of getting to know a little better through our sessions together.
When Tatiana of Tiny Clicks contacted me last year, we instantly hit it off. We talk shop of course, we get excited and gab about awesome locations, websites, props, and on and on. She has worked as my assistant in the past and I hope I get to have her work with me again because I adore her. You will never meet a more genuine, sincere person. But she’s going to have her hands full for a little while now… When Tatiana emailed me telling me she was pregnant and that I was the only one she wanted to do her maternity and newborn shoot – I was ecstatic for her! And we were both beyond excited about our session. I mean two photographers this passionate about photography – you have to know it was nutty putting this together.
So, after much excited discussion and after I went on 1 or 2 (ok, three) scouting trips we finally settled on this jaw dropping scene in the middle of the woods… and it was MAGICAL…
Isn’t she gorgeous? And just positively glowing….
So my husband says that I am much more of an “indoor girl” … and while this might be somewhat true, I did not hesitate one bit in scouting out this location. Even though it required an approximate 10 min hike through the woods (that I had to make sure was ok for a pregnant woman before I would allow it!)…even though I got lost off the trail… and even though I fell and twisted my ankle (go ahead and laugh, I did) – it was all worth it. And make no mistake – I would do it for any client, not just a photographer friend. I love scouting out new locations. In the end it’s all worth it…
And it was so awesome that she had a more than willing and cooperative husband who was just as into the session as we were (thank you for all the assisting J!)
Aren’t they an adorable couple? I can’t wait to see what a cute baby they are cooking up!
Congrats again Tatiana & J! I’ll see you soon for your newborn session! {Gina – call me!! Yes, I’m talking to YOU! =)}
Beachy Keen | Long Island Family Photographer | September Blue Photography
A fun family beach session to share today… getting outdoors in the summer sun, with a cool ocean breeze and their adorable toddler. Family beach sessions don’t get old for me… especially with a family this fun. Check him out in that last shot – he is positively soaked! They had been playing in the surf, jumping waves, and just plain goofing off. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

And the winner is… | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
And the winner is: Dean! Well, actually, Dean’s mommy. She won one of a few prizes I donated to the lifamilies.com Bridal Luncheon this year. When I donated a complimentary newborn session – I had no idea it would go to someone already expecting – so I put an expiration date of 2011 on the gift certificate. I was absolutely thrilled to find out it went to someone already expecting and very deserving. J & V, you are a lovely couple and now a beautiful new little family – congratulations again!

Noah | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
Love his name. Loved his chubbiness even more! And his mom was tiny – you should’ve seen her! They are such an adorable family and I loved hanging out with them while I captured their gorgeous new little boy.
The umbilical cord stump. It’s the newborn tag…. Like when you go to the store and buy something new, you bring it home and it has the tags on it. I see the umbilical cord stump on an 8 day old baby and I think… wow… brand new… and there’s the proof. There it is… a life… new, with tags. =)
A clean, fresh process (my usual) paired with a black backdrop makes for a timeless image:
Look at those cheeks!
I love when newborns just relax into this pose… it’s so natural and candid… reminds me of the way my own babies slept when they were newborns.
So comfy and cozy…
A happy, sleepy newborn is always a goal for me at a newborn session but I love capturing a happy, calm, awake newborn… especially one with eyes like this – priceless!
Dream Newborn | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
Baby G was just one of those babies that sleeps through the entire session, barely makes a fuss or a mess, and gives you just about every single pose you could ask for and then some – a dream newborn session. There isn’t much that needs to be said about this session and these images… if a photo is worth a thousand words, it wouldn’t make much sense if I went on and on about them right? =) Enjoy her newborn sweetness!
Brother & Sister | Long Island Baby Photographer | September Blue Photography
So happy to finally share this session with you … meet Mac & Peyton: brother and sister, about a year or so apart. I love seeing siblings this close together in age because you just know how close they are going to be growing up together. Mac was so adorable, grabbing a hold of my hand almost right away, we ran off to play together and had a blast during this session. Mom joked with me about how he would’ve gone home with me. I loved capturing both their blooming little personalities.
Warning to future clients: I am currently obsessed with white – you will probably hear me recommend white something during your pre-session consultation - don’t know how long this will last, but I am just loving it…
I love, love a classic headshot. Crisp eyes with solid eye contact, a great smile – creamy bokeh in the background…. there is something so timeless about it…
And really, there aren’t much cuter things in this world than a baby grabbing toes… irresistible cuteness! But it’s her eyes that really draw me in here…
You can’t help but smile right along with him here…
Again with those eyes!
And finally – some sibling fun!
Twice as nice | Long Island Maternity Photographer | September Blue Photography
You read that right. She’s expecting TWINS. Yes… there are two babies in there. How, I don’t know… but she tells me they are in there. Can I tell you how excited I am about these babies? They’ll be here in just a few short weeks – identical boys – and I get to do their newborn session!
I literally squealed out loud when I read the email telling me she was having twins… you see, she’s been my client for a long time now and has become more than just a client… You might recognize her seriously adorable daughter (who’s always all over my website – and my samples!) from past work… it’s been so fun watching her grow up and now to see her become a big sister to two little brothers – well, this is one of the perks of being a family portrait photographer that makes it so worthwhile. I get to be there for this family to document momentous occasions in their lives… toddlerhood, holidays, pregnancy, and soon – two new additions to their family.
Anyway, back to how fabulous she looks…
Loved this color combo on her…
Just a couple more… I can’t help it! Two babies people. Two. See you in a few weeks D!!!

A big sister. | Long Island Newborn Photographer | September Blue Photography
We had just a few minutes to take this shot… It was getting late and Melina had to go to bed. She had school the next day. She had been my little helper throughout the entire session, ever vigilant over her new little sister – holding her, soothing her when I needed her to. She expressed an eager interest in photography, so I handed her my backup camera and let her take a few shots of me as I continued to photograph her sister. But now it was her turn…her turn with Camila. First I got the tentative yet excited smile for my test shot, then she got a little serious when I handed her the baby, sound asleep and completely naked. And then I got this… As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words…this one clearly and emotively says just two: big sister.
I have to admit that I am very biased with these photos as they are of the newborn daughter of my close friend of many, many years. I can’t even begin to tell you how happy I am for her and her beautiful family. I know how long awaited baby #2 was for them, and I know how deliriously happy they are over her arrival. But every newborn session is just as special… it may not be my close friend of many years, but I know how special each baby is to its family… yet another reason why I love newborn photography. Jimmy, Yagaira, & Melina – congratulations again on your new addition! See you soon!
